MUKTI & REVIVAL — BAND BIO

Mukti & Revival is one of Nepal’s pioneering rock bands, based in Kathmandu and performing for more than three decades. Since the 1990s, the band has developed a distinctive sound that blends the soul and improvisation of American blues with the traditional melodies, stories, and character of Nepali music.

Led by vocalist and guitarist Mukti Shakya, the band is known for music that goes beyond entertainment. Their songs explore love, politics, bureaucracy, rural life, social issues, and the everyday experiences of Nepali people. Through powerful lyrics, satire, and storytelling, Mukti & Revival questions, challenges, and brings attention to issues within society while preserving the cultural flavor of Nepal.

The band’s journey began in 1992, following Mukti Shakya’s return to Kathmandu, and they have continued to evolve through different generations of musicians. The current lineup features Mukti Shakya (vocals/guitar), Roshan Kansakar (bass), Sunit Kansakar (guitar), and Nikhil Tuladhar (drums). Together, they create the blues-driven chemistry and musical space that have become a signature of Mukti & Revival.

The band gained significant recognition with the release of their first album, Kalanki Ko Jam, in 2000, following a period of renewed momentum in the mid-1990s. Since then, Mukti & Revival has established itself as an important name in Nepali rock and blues.

Since 2006, the band has taken its music to audiences around the world, performing across the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Europe, the UK, India, Sikkim, Shillong, and Dubai. They have performed everywhere from major stages and stadiums to city halls and intimate venues, while also participating in numerous concerts supporting charitable causes and social initiatives.

After more than 30 years of music, touring, and cultural influence, Mukti & Revival continues to bridge generations and cultures through its unique fusion of Nepali folk traditions and blues-rock.
