The Green Flash Atlanta Premiere
Join us on Saturday, August 23 at 6pm, as we celebrate a very special Atlanta screening of "The Green Flash" alongside the filmmakers and the community who made the film possible.
"The Green Flash" is about an outlaw. In 1973, 19-year-old Steve Lamb was busted smuggling 9 tons of pot into Steinhatchee, FL. At the time, it was the biggest bust in US history.
But the film picks up with Steve in the present-day, back in his hometown of St. Pete Beach, FL. As he pedals his memoir, “The Smuggler’s Ghost: When Marijuana Turned a Florida Teen Into a Millionaire Fugitive,” we learn how he garnered local fame decades ago—and how he intends to keep it.
This film evolved from a story that co-directors Jodi Cash and Ethan Payne produced for The Bitter Southerner in 2016, while both were living in Atlanta. They brought Gresham Cash aboard as composer and co-producer, and the three journeyed regularly to St. Pete Beach, FL, where the story takes place. Now they're thrilled to reunite in the city where the vision for this film began and to share it with family and friends who have championed their effort from start to finish.
Their return to Atlanta comes on the heels of a successful festival run, in which the film won the Audience Award at Ouray International Film Festival, Best Documentary at Sunscreen Film Festival, Best Cinematography at Queens World Film Festival, and Best Original Score at Swedish International Film Festival—as well as official selections at festivals throughout the US and Europe.
The night will kick off with a screening of the film, followed by a Q&A with the crew, and wrap up with a very special live performance of tracks from the score by Gresham Cash.
This will be the last show in a tour throughout Florida and Georgia, celebrating the kickoff of the film's theatrical release. Please join us as we celebrate this pivotal moment for the film, as well as the cause it represents. A portion of the proceeds from the film will be donated in Steve Lamb's honor to the Last Prisoner Project, a nonprofit dedicated to cannabis clemency and criminal justice reform.
Come meet the filmmakers, thank the people who helped them reach the finish line, hear live surf-rock-inspired music from the film, and drink Wild Heaven beer!
