Yeison Landero stands at the forefront of modern Colombian roots music as one of the leading exponents of cumbia sabanera — the vibrant, accordion-driven sound born in Colombia’s Caribbean heartland. Known as “el heredero de la cumbia” (the heir to cumbia), Landero delivers exhilarating, high-energy performances that fuse tradition with contemporary power, bringing Colombian soul music to new audiences around the world with authenticity and unmistakable charisma.

Hailing from San Jacinto in Colombia’s Montes de María province — the birthplace of cumbia sabanera — Yeison is the grandson of the legendary Andrés Landero, widely revered across Latin America as “el rey de la cumbia.” Andrés Landero helped shape what the world now recognizes as cumbia, translating the indigenous melodies of the gaita flutes into accordion lines, driving them with African-derived percussion, and giving voice to the lives of rural Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities. Under his grandfather’s guidance, Yeison began studying accordion at the age of seven, inheriting not only a musical legacy but a cultural mission.

Today, Yeison Landero and his world-class band keep the classic cumbia sabanera sound alive while pushing it forward for 21st-century listeners and dancers. His performances are a celebration of rhythm, heritage, and joy — electrifying live shows that bridge generations and borders.

Landero’s international career has taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and the Festival de Orquestas at the Carnaval de Barranquilla, where he was awarded the Congo de Oro in 2023. He has represented Colombia at global gatherings such as Expo 2020 Dubai, the Global Environment Summit COP16 in Cali (2024), and a highly anticipated showcase at WOMEX in Tampere, Finland (2025).

Beyond the stage, Yeison is deeply committed to cultural preservation and education. As the founder of the International Cumbia Fest in San Jacinto and the Fundación Landero Vive, he works tirelessly to safeguard cumbia’s legacy while nurturing new generations of musicians in Colombia and abroad.

With his accordion, original compositions, and magnetic stage presence, Yeison Landero continues to expand the global reach of cumbia sabanera — affirming his place as one of the most vital and dynamic voices in Colombian music today.

Yeison Landero se sitúa a la vanguardia de la música de raíz colombiana contemporánea como uno de los máximos exponentes de la cumbia sabanera, el vibrante sonido de acordeón nacido en el corazón del Caribe colombiano. Conocido como “el heredero de la cumbia”, Landero ofrece presentaciones electrizantes y llenas de energía que fusionan la tradición con una fuerza contemporánea, llevando el alma musical de Colombia a nuevas audiencias alrededor del mundo con autenticidad y carisma inconfundible.

Oriundo de San Jacinto, en los Montes de María — cuna de la cumbia sabanera — Yeison es nieto del legendario Andrés Landero, reconocido en toda América Latina como “el rey de la cumbia.” Andrés Landero ayudó a dar forma a lo que hoy el mundo conoce como cumbia, trasladando las melodías indígenas de las gaitas al acordeón, impulsándolas con ritmos de raíz africana y dando voz a las comunidades campesinas indígenas y afrocolombianas. Bajo su guía, Yeison comenzó a estudiar acordeón a los siete años, heredando no solo un legado musical, sino también una misión cultural.

Hoy, acompañado por una banda de primer nivel, mantiene vivo el sonido clásico de la cumbia sabanera mientras lo proyecta hacia el siglo XXI, conectando generaciones a través de conciertos vibrantes que celebran el ritmo, la identidad y la alegría.

Su carrera internacional lo ha llevado a escenarios de gran prestigio como The Kennedy Center en Washington D.C., Hollywood Bowl en Los Ángeles y el Festival de Orquestas del Carnaval de Barranquilla, donde recibió el Congo de Oro en 2023. También ha representado a Colombia en encuentros globales como Expo 2020 Dubai, la Cumbre Ambiental COP16 en Cali (2024) y un destacado showcase en WOMEX (2025).

Más allá de los escenarios, Landero está comprometido con la preservación cultural. Como fundador del International Cumbia Fest en San Jacinto y de la Fundación Landero Vive, trabaja activamente en la formación de nuevas generaciones de músicos dentro y fuera de Colombia.
